NATCHEZ — Alex Weadock pitched three shutout innings on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts as the Cathedral Green Wave rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Porter’s Chapel Academy Eagles 5-4 Monday night at Chester Willis Field.
Weadock ended up being the winning pitcher for Cathedral after coming on in relief for starting pitcher Sam Parker, who gave up three runs in the top of the second inning. However, only one of those runs was an earned run. Parker allowed four hits and one walk in his two innings on the mound.
Cathedral scored one run in the bottom of the second inning and two in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-all. The Green Wave took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Porter’s Chapel scored one run in the top of the sixth to make it a 5-4 game, but the Eagles were unable to bring in the game-tying run.
Pate Shirley got the save as he gave up no earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts in two innings. Thomas Garrity went 3-for-3 and Kyle Bradley was 2-for-3. The Green Wave won the game despite being out-hit 11 to five.
Cathedral (11-4) has an important Region 7-1A game at 7 p.m. today at St. Aloysius.
Block 11, Northwood-Lena 7
JONESVILLE — Even though he pitched just one inning — the first inning — Taylor Perron got the win on the mound for Block as the Bears defeated the Northwood-Lena Gators Monday afternoon for their first win in LHSAA District 4-1A this season.
And it was quite an interesting first inning for Perron. He gave up one run on one hit, walked two and struck out the side in the top of the inning. He then hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to help the Bears take a 3-1 lead.
Kailyn Curry finished the final six innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Perron had a double later in the game and finished 2-for-4.
Block (7-12, 1-5) plays at 4 p.m. today at home against Harrisonburg.
Centreville Academy 9, Brookhaven Academy 4
CENTREVILLE — Casey Haygood pitched four and one-third innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts as the Centreville Academy Tigers defeated the Brookhaven Academy Cougars Monday afternoon.
Brookhaven Academy scored three runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 4-2 lead before Haygood came in and shut the door on the Cougars. He allowed just two hits and walked three batters.
The Tigers responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third for a 5-4 lead. They added two runs in each of the next two innings to put the game out of reach. Cale McKey went 2-for-3 and Corey Gaulden went 2-for-4.
Centreville Academy plays at 4:30 p.m. today at Parklane Academy.
