Monterey — Services for Billy Cannon, 80, of Monterey, who died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Rev. C.D. Beard and Bro. Jack Crane officiating.

Burial will follow at Lismore Baptist Church under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Cannon was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Hazelhurst, the son of Dora and Talton Cannon.

He joined the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 14 and served for two years. After his service in the Coast Guard, Mr. Cannon worked for South Central Bell as a cable splicer. He retired in 1982 after 39 years of service.

After retirement, Mr. Cannon could be found on the lakes or in the woods as he loved to fish and hunt. Later in life he became interested in pool and bingo.

Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Talton Cannon Jr. and one sister, Yvonne Hancock.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma “Pud” Cannon; three sons, Billy Wayne Cannon of Monterey, Charlie Cannon and Mark Cannon; two daughters, Theresa Stephenson and Deborah Allred; one sister, Elaine Anding; their spouses, numerous grandchildren, a number of in-laws and friends.

Pallbearers will be Billy Wayne Cannon, Mark Cannon, Wayne Stephenson, Ethan Cannon, Cody Stephenson and Mark Cannon Jr.
