MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Memorial services for John S. Havard Sr., 82, of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at his daughter, Shelly Poole’s residence, will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Highland Baptist Church in Natchez with the Rev. Paul Southerland officiating.

A memorial service will also be hosted at First Apostolic Church of Maryville with the Rev. Kenneth Carpenter officiating.

In true form of his willingness to help others, Mr. Havard had arranged for his body to be donated to East Tennessee State University for medical study.

Mr. Havard was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Gloster, the son of Lee and Addie Havard. He was a longtime resident of Natchez.

He was a very loving father and grandfather who enjoyed the outdoors and loved to worship and sing with his church family at Highland Baptist Church before relocating to The Smokey Mountains. He was baptized at First United Pentecostal Church in 2001 by the Rev. Mark Herrington.

Mr. Havard was a veteran of World War II the Korean War. He retired from International Paper Company in 1992.

Mr. Havard was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Charlotte Havard; one grandson, Jacob Lafferty; and two brothers, Walter Lee Havard and Carol James Havard.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Duet Havard; one son, Johnny Havard and wife, Stephanie; two daughters, Shelley Poole and husband, Jerry, and Julie Havard; two sisters, Camille Havard McKinney and Josie Havard Seal; two brothers, Edward Havard and O.G. Havard; eight grandchildren, Trey Havard and fiancée, Megan Byrnes, Kristen Havard, Joshua Havard and wife, Tiffany, Jeremy Poole and fiancée, Jessica Campbell, Jared Poole, Shi’anne Poole, Justin Poole and Jessie Lafferty; one great-granddaughter, Sofia Havard; one great-grandson, Evan Elijah Lafferty; and best friend, Sonny Johnston.

The family extends special thanks to everyone for their prayers and condolences during this difficult time.
