NATCHEZ — Celebrities from the sports and entertainment field will once again be in Natchez raising money for the Natchez Children’s Home next week.

“This is one of our big fundraisers for the year,” Natchez Children’s Home Director Nancy Hungerford said. “We are certainly glad to have them back.”

The tournament will begin with a skin’s game at noon on Friday at Beau Pré. There will be a dinner and social at 7 p.m. at the Grand Soleil Hotel which includes an auction of sports and other memorabilia. The event will conclude with the golf tournament on Saturday at Beau Pré.

Before the noon shotgun start, there will be a trick shot demonstration at 10 a.m. by renowned trick shot artist Buddy Shelton followed by a long drive demonstration by champion long driver Sean “The Beast” Fister.

Participating in the skin’s game on Friday is $50 per person and actual tournament slots are $200 per person.

The tournament will be a four-man scramble.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher and champion celebrity golfer Rick Rhoden will be participating in the Natchez tournament for the second consecutive year.

He said it is a pleasure for him to come back to Natchez this year after the enjoyable time he had at last year’s tournament.

“We had a nice crowd there and everybody was as friendly as could be,” Rhoden said. “The main thing is people are all giving money to support a good cause. The idea is to make them have a good day. It’s important that people get together and have a good time.”

Hungerford said she hopes the tournament can raise $10,000 for the children’s home, which will go toward helping them fund their foster care, preschool and day care programs, among other things.

“We’ve got a good field of 13 celebrity players,” Hungerford said. “We’ve got an auction and a prize board and a skin’s game Friday morning, so there’s lots of different funding streams. When it all comes together we hope to realize about $10,000.”
