NATCHEZ — After blowing a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning, the Cathedral Green Wave responded with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth en route to an 8-5 win over the West Lincoln Bears Friday afternoon in MHSAA Region 7-1A action.

Cathedral scored two runs in the bottom of the first and second innings, it looked like that would be all the run support starter Thomas Garrity would need. However, West Lincoln struck for four runs in the top of the fourth that tied the game at 4-4 before the Green Wave took the lead for good in the bottom of that inning.

Garrity was the winning pitcher as he allowed five earned runs on nine hits and struck out six in seven innings. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Kyle Bradley, Ty Brown and Andrew Beesley each went 2-for-3, with Bradley hitting a double for the Green Wave. Cathedral (8-3, 2-0) has a make-up game at 11 a.m. today at Porter’s Chapel Academy.

Trinity Episcopal 0

COLUMBIA — Drew McElroy pitched four shutout innings on just two hits, struck out five batters and went 2-for-3 at the plate as the Columbia Academy Cougars defeated Trinity Episcopal in five innings Friday afternoon in an MAIS District 5-AA game.

Columbia Academy scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, four in the bottom of the second, three in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth. John McNeese and Will Rayborn each had a double for the Cougars. Jesse Cable had a double for the Saints.

Peyton Young took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on nine hits, four walks and three hit batters with two strikeouts in four innings.

Trinity Episcopal (1-8, 0-2) plays at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Brookhaven Academy.

Centreville sweeps doubleheader

FRANKLINTON, La. — Centreville gave up one run in both of its games against Bowling Green Friday to sweep a doubleheader, winning Game 1 6-1 and Game 2 7-1.

Corey Gaulden got the win in the first game, pitching seven innings and giving up one hit and one walk while striking out seven. Gaulden also had a double and went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Gage Chandler had a home run in Game 1, and he finished 3-for-4. Drew Noland and Randy Bell both went 2-for-4.

Bell was the winning pitcher in Game 2, going six innings and giving up two hits and three walks. He also struck out 13 batters.

Gaulden had a double and went 3-for-4 at the plate. Tyler Caston was 2-for-5 and Casey Haygood finished 2-for-3.

Centreville (10-0) will play Tuesday at Central Private.
