NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Graveside services for David Lea Bloodworth, 88, of Greenbrier, Ark., who died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Little Rock.
Mr. Bloodworth was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Natchez, the son of Thomas and Martha E. Breithaupt Bloodworth. He was raised in New Orleans.
Mr. Bloodworth joined the U.S. Navy Seabees at the outbreak of World War II. At the time, he was employed by Andrew Higgins Shipyard as an apprentice and helped test the landing craft seen in the famous D-Day invasion photos. He worked for Shell Oil Company for more than 20 years in New Orleans and Atlanta and later went into business for himself.
Mr. Bloodworth was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas S. Bloodworth Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Iris Bloodworth; two daughters, Sandra Sanchez of Fairhope, Ala., and Lisa Roska and husband, Bob, of Dacula, Ga.; one brother, John Bloodworth of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to a charity of choice.
