VIDALIA — The Monterey Wolves scored 12 runs in the bottom of the second inning to open up a huge lead as they went on to defeat the Block Bears 17-2 Saturday afternoon at the 2013 Vidalia High School Baseball Tournament.
Block started the game with one run in the top of the first inning, but Monterey would take the lead for good thanks to a four-run rally in the bottom of the first. After they went on a scoring spree in the bottom of the second to take a 16-1 lead, both teams scored one run in the third inning of this five-inning contest.
Jay Burlew hit two double and Hunter Frey had a double for Monterey, which was also aided by 10 errors committed by the Bears.
Block (6-5) next plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s in its LHSAA District 4-1A opener.
