CENTREVILLE — The Centreville Academy Tigers swept a varsity doubleheader from the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets in MAIS District 6-AA action Thursday afternoon, taking Game 1 20-5 in five innings and Game 2 by a score of 6-0.
In the first game, Centreville found itself trailing Oak Forest 3-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning before going on a tear. The Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, nine in the bottom of the second, and six in the bottom of the third, which included Drew Noland’s grand slam home run.
The Tigers’ bats and the pitching of Corey Gaulden helped them overcome six errors. Gaulden allowed two earned runs on five hits and one hit batter, while striking out seven in five innings. He also went 2-for-2 with a double. Randy Bell and Tyler Caston each went 2-for-4.
The second game of the day belonged to Randy Bell. In a complete-game performance, Bell struck out 19 batters, allowed just one hit and walked one. But it wasn’t until the bottom of the third inning when the Tigers finally got on the scoreboard with one run. They would tack on two runs in each of the next two innings and one more in the bottom of the sixth.
Gage Chandler went 2-for-4, Gaulden had a triple, and both John Marcus McDowell and Cale Mackey had a double.
Centreville Academy (7-0, 3-0) has a JV game at 4:30 p.m. and a varsity game at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Brookhaven Academy.
