NATCHEZ — Services for J.B. “ Red Man” Mikell, 57, formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Sun Rise Hospital in Las Vegas, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bright Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Mikell was born April 3, 1955, in Adams County, the son of Percy and Catherine Johnson and Willie McMorris. He was a 1974 graduate of North Natchez High School and was a member of the band.
J.B. was a former employee of Imperial Palace and the State of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Roosevelt Mikell; grandparents, Rosie Mikell and Cletus Mikell Sr., Annie Robinson, Willie McMorris Sr. and Queen McMorris; one sister, Catherine Mosby; and one uncle, Cletus Mikell Jr.
Survivors include two sons, J.B. Mikell Jr. and Derrick Mikell, both of Las Vegas; one daughter, Jada Mikell of Nevada; his mother and stepfather of Natchez; his father of St. Louis; three sisters, Gladys M. Diggs of Las Vegas, Joan M. Chatman and Bobbie J. Gordon, both of Natchez; four brothers, Richard Mikell and wife, Ollie, and Larry Johnson and wife, Janice, all of Las Vegas, Carson Johnson and Percy Johnson Jr., both of Natchez; two special nieces, Tiny Diggs and husband, Ray, and KaShanna Diggs, all of Las Vegas; three special nephews, Vincent, Leo and Ronald, all of Las Vegas; three aunts, Ella Mae Bruce, Ethel McCullum, both of Natchez, and Jessie Hargrave and husband, Louis, of Kenner, La.; six uncles, Roosevelt Mikell, Jimmy Washington, Henry Davis and wife, Shirley, all of Las Vegas, Al C. “Snow” Mikell and wife, Sadie, Wayne McMorris and Leroy McMorris, all of Natchez; and a number of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
