CLAYTON — Services for Virginia Anderson Sibley, 84, of Clayton, who died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, La., will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Clayton Baptist Church with the Rev. John Williams officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sibley was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Mangham, La., the daughter of Richard Bethea and Earleen Weems Anderson. She was a housewife and a charter member of Clayton Baptist Church. She served in many different capacities of the church, including secretary/treasurer, Sunday school teacher and providing beautiful flowers for the altar each Sunday. She was a former member of Ferriday First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sibley was employed by Concordia Parish Trade School for many years as secretary. She was a former member and president of the GFWC Community Service Club of Ferriday. She loved her home state of Louisiana and was a knowledgeable historian. She enjoyed her years of working for the Louisiana Tourist Bureau. Together with her sisters and their family, she enjoyed hunting, fishing and many outdoor activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Willa Catherine Taunton and Bonnie Jean Robertson; and two brothers-in-law, Travis “Doc” Taunton and Edward Robertson.
Survivors include one son, Rick Sibley and wife, Neeva, both of Monterey; two daughters, Karen Endres and husband, Sam, both of Gainesville, Texas and Susan Tompkins and husband, Alan, both of Houma, La.; seven grandchildren, Richie Sibley and wife, Jan, both of Baton Rouge, Stephen Sibley and wife, Sandra, both of Marksville, La., Angie Eason and husband, Mark, both of Gainesville, La., Jeannie Almerico and husband, Sam, both of Houston, Texas, Becky Endres and Jacob Endres, both of Gainesville, Texas, and Michael Tompkins of Houma, La.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Richie Sibley, Stephen Sibley, Jacob Endres, Michael Tompkins, Richard Robertson, Pat Robertson, Brent Taunton and Mark Taunton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Sibley, Buck Andrews and Sammy Parker.
The family requests that any planned memorials be made to Clayton Baptist Church.
