NATCHEZ — Alex Weadock came on in relief of a struggling Thomas Garrity and pitched four solid innings as the Cathedral Green Wave rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams 17-9 Thursday night.

Weadock pitched the third through sixth innings for Cathedral and allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts to pick up the win.

“I thought Alex did a good job for us on the mound. He threw strikes and kept the ball down in the zone,” Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said. “He (also) kept our pitching rotation intact for Saturday’s game with Loyd Star.”

WCCA scored two runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to that 4-0 lead, but Cathedral answered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and six more in the bottom of the third for a 12-4 lead. The Rams cut the lead to 12-8 in the top of the fourth inning, but the Green Wave ended their rally with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth.

“I was glad to see us make a comeback there. Things didn’t go our way early,” Beesley said. “We hit the ball well, but they made some good plays. We’ve got to continue to get better game by game.”

Weadock helped his own cause by going 2-for-2 with a double. Hayden Nunnery and Jardarius Anderson each went 2-for-4 and Kyle Bradley was 2-for-5 with a double for Cathedral.

WCCA was led by Austin Goodfellow, who went 3-for-5 with a double.

Junior varsity and varsity games that were scheduled to take place today at WCCA have been rescheduled for a later date to be determined, according to WCCA’s website. No reason for the change was given.

Cathedral (4-2) hosts Loyd Star on Saturday with the JV game at 11 a.m. and the varsity game at 1 p.m. WCCA (0-3) doesn’t play again until Tuesday at Silliman Institute with the JV game at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
