Edward Yancy

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Services for Edward Yancy, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, in Memphis, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Skinner Cemetery under the direction of Williams & Williams Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Yancy was born on Jan. 26, 1928, in Adams County, the son of the Rev. George Moore and Daisy Miller Singleton.
He was retired after many years as a construction worker. Mr. Yancy loved his family. He enjoyed telling family and friends stories filling their lives with laughter in good and bad times. Although he left Natchz at an early age to make Memphis his physical home, Natchez remained home in his heart.
Mr. Yancy was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, James Singleton; one daughter, Shirley Yancy; two step-sisters, Margaret Dotson and Katie Yancy and a nephew, Carl Wayne Potters
Survivors include one son, Charles E. Yancy of Ohio; one daughter, Evelyn Hoskins of Dallas; one sister, Dorothy Mae Williams and her husband Amos of Natchez; one uncle, Cleveland Moore and his wife Katie of Natchez; one step-brother, Willie James Singleton, two sisters-in-law, Frances Yancy, and Ella Yancy, all of Memphis; two grandchildren, Gerald Hawkins of Dallas and Lionel Williams; one special friend, Mrs. Martha Tyson of Memphis and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Potters, Brad Ware, Robert Ware, Michael Ware, William Singleton, and Thomas Wade Singleton.
