FERRIDAY — Services for Lula Johnson Jefferson, 72, of Ferriday, who died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church, on Skipper Drive, with the Rev. Lee Andew Martin officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jefferson was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Oak Ridge, La., the daughter of Sam and Luevenia Ray Johnson. She was retired as truck driver for the Town of Ferriday.
Mrs. Jefferson enjoyed singing and playing gospel music. She sang with and organized the Golden Tones, Natchez Tornadoes and the Heavenly Wonders.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ernest Johnson; and one sister, Annese Trask.
Survivors include two children, Derrick Johnson of Ferriday and Theresa Johnson of Cleveland; five brothers, James Johnson, Herman Johnson and Alex Johnson and wife, Sharon, all of Detroit, Sam Johnson and wife, Frances, both of Westwego, La., and Johnny Johnson of Ferriday; two sisters, Clotea J. Smith of Harvey, La., and Carrie J. Banks of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one aunt, Hattie Fields of Ferriday.
