NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Katie Howard Reed, 92, of Natchez, formerly of Monroe, La., who died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe with the Rev. David McKeithen officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Reed was born Feb. 5, 1921, the daughter of Joe M. Howard and Lucy Dollar Howard of Felsenthal, Ark. She never drove a car, although she worked for a while at Clover Leaf Dairy and later at Landry’s Dress Shop in Monroe.
Mrs. Reed was an excellent homemaker, enjoyed nurturing azaleas, ran the vacuum cleaner every day and made the hottest cup of Maxwell House coffee ever. She could capture the attention of her grandkids with her amazing story telling skills and fried peach pies.
Mrs. Reed worked hard and loved much. She was a devoted and selfless mother and grandmother, she was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents; and three sisters, Tillie Cottgias, Sue Poole and Relda Williams.
Survivors include one son, Mickey Reed and wife, Clara, of West Monroe; one daughter, Judy Brown and husband, Eddie, of Natchez; six grandchildren, Ronnie Brown, Tara Thomas and husband, Todd, Rhonda Hunt and husband, Tim, Casey Reed, Buddy Brown and wife, Brenda, and Cindy Buseck and husband, Bob; and 13 great-grandchildren, Mazeigh Brown, Cody Brown, Samuel Thomas, Jack Thomas, Megan Hunt, Dakota Hunt, Sarah Hunt, Garrett Sellers, Justin Hunt, Caroline Reed, Isabelle Reed, Drew Brown and Rachel Brown.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ronnie Brown, Buddy Brown, Bob Buseck, Tim Hunt, Casey Reed and great-grandson, Dakota Hunt.
