Dr. Joe Lancaster

FERRIDAY — Services for Dr. Joe P. Lancaster, 78, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dr. Lancaster was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Natchez, the son of James Otto Lancaster and Ruth Gillespie Lancaster. He was a lifelong resident of Ferriday. He was a doctor of veterinary medicine for 52 years. He was also a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ferriday.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, John Bruce Lancaster, James O. Lancaster and A.K. “Buddy” Lancaster.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Willett Lancaster; two daughters, Lisa Lancaster Smith of Ferriday and Lilah Lancaster Larkin and husband, Kevin, of Dallas; one son, Joe Dee Lancaster of Ferriday; one grandson, Lance Michael Smith of Dallas; one granddaughter, Leia Smith Freeman and husband, Clay, and great-grandson, Landry, all of Ferriday; three sisters, Mittie Lancaster Schiele and Jane Arlette Lancaster, both of Ferriday, and Marjorie Lancaster Wood of Tallulah, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Knesel Lancaster Jr., George Wayne Lancaster, John Preston Lancaster, Edward Lancaster Schiele, James Bart Wood, Rutledge Claude Horne II, Ronnie Wayne Bradford and Tom Terry Miliken II.
Donations may be made to the church of your choice of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine, 4301 W. Markham St., Little Rock, AR 72205.
