BOGUE CHITTO — The Cathedral Lady Green Wave had a tough time breaking through Bogue Chitto’s press defense throughout the first half of its 49-25 loss to the Lady Bobcats Friday night in an MHSAA Region 7-1A game.
Cathedral head coach Randy Smith noted that Wesley Calloway was the only player who really had any success against that defense. She finished with six points on the night. Kennedy Gray was the Lady Green Wave’s leading scorer with seven points.
Bogue Chitto dominated the first half en route to a 23-9 halftime lead. Even though Cathedral tried to get back in the game in the third quarter, it was not meant to be after the Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Green Wave 19-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bobcats were led by Adrienne Wallace with 15 points and Zariah Matthews with nine points.
Cathedral (10-14, 5-5) will be the No. 3 seed in next week’s Region 7-1A Tournament at Hinds Agricultural High School. Its opening-round opponent will be No. 6 seed Piney Woods on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Jonesboro-Hodge 69, Ferriday 51
FERRIDAY — Sha’Keria Kelly led Ferriday with a game-high 29 points, but it was not enough for the Lady Trojans to overcome Jonesboro-Hodge’s balanced scoring attack in an 18-point loss to the Lady Tigers in LHSAA District 2-2A action Friday night.
The Lady Trojans got off to a rough start and trailed Jonesboro-Hodge 18-8 at the end of the first quarter. From there, the Lady Tigers made sure that Ferriday would not get back in the game.
Jada Griggs added 18 points for Ferriday, but only one other player reached the scoring column for the Lady Trojans — Jasz Davis with four points. The Lady Tigers were led by Jakita Sampson with 17 points while Paris Robinson had 16 points and Breanna Wayne scored 12 points.
Ferriday (5-17, 3-6) will host Homer in a make-up game on Monday at 6 p.m.
Brookhaven Academy 60, Trinity Episcopal 19
BROOKHAVEN — Madison Warren torched Trinity Episcopal for a game-high 28 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars rolled past the Lady Saints in MAIS District 5-AA action Friday night.
Marty Lewis led Trinity Episcopal with 12 points, but the Lady Saints were unable to overcome a tough first quarter in which they scored just two points and trailed by 20 points at the end of the quarter.
Even though Trinity went winless in the regular season (0-22, 0-6), the Lady Saints will be playing in the MAIS Class AA South State Tournament at Brookhaven Academy as District 5-AA’s No. 4 seed. They will play in a first-round game Monday or Tuesday.
