FERRIDAY — Services for Johnny G. “Red” Robertson, Jr., 88, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Camelot Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Roger Johnson and the Rev. Stacey Morgan officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Robertson was born June 28, 1924, in Shreveport, La., the son of Johnny Gurden Robertson Jr. and Hazel Virginia Robertson.

Coach Robertson brought pride to the community by achieving four state football championships and having 54 games without a loss. He served the youth of Concordia Parish as teacher/coach, principal, supervisor of federal programs and director of Concordia Parish Vo-Tech. He provided valuable services to his community by serving as summer recreation director and director of the board for Riverland Medical Center, assisting in the organization of Dixie Youth Baseball League, actively participating in both the Ferriday First Baptist Church and the Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Robertson received both the state and national recognition by his induction into the Northwestern State Hall of Fame, Louisiana High School Hall of Fame, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame as well as being awarded the Amateur Football Award from the National Football and College Hall of Fame.

Mr. Robertson proudly served his country as an active member of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid golfer, spending a number of afternoons at Panola Woods Country Club, but the true love of his life was his beloved wife, Jimmie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gruden Emile Robertson and James Milton Robertson.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jimmie S. Robertson; four sons, John G. Robertson III, David C. Robertson and wife, Belinda, and Mike Robertson, all of Baton Rouge and Todd Robertson and wife, Robin, of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Hazel Jacqueline Robertson of Victoria, Texas; and a number of grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
