FAYETTE — Services for Vera Marie Jenkins, 70, of Fayette, who died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at her residence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery in Fayette under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Jenkins was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Truly Vessel Sr. and Ruth Doil Jones. She was employed as a food service manager. She was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church where she served as a member of the choir, was in the Women’s Auxiliary, was a Sunday School scholar, was in a Pastor’s Aide Club, attended the Bible Study group and was an usher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willie James Vessel and Leory Vessel; and five sisters, Izora Snyder, Beatrice Vessel, Mary Gladys Hall, Bessie Lee Carter and Essie Mae Harris.
Survivors include her husband, Marshall Jenkins; three daughters, Emma Ruth Jackson and husband, Jarious, of Fayette, Mary Ann Golliday and Brenda Lee Jenkins, both of Harriston; five siblings, T.J. Vessel and wife, Josephine, of Fayette, Truly Vessel Jr. and wife, Evelyn, and Rusievelt Vessel and wife, Alice, all of Gonzales, La., Nellie Vessel of Chicago and Maddie Ruth Hall of Fayette; four grandchildren, Jizette, Brenita, Jivarre and Bryce; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Lynn Stander, Jimmy Earl Stander, Timothy Vessel, Carnell Vessel, Karl Wayne Pierce and Errol Tyrone Pierce.
Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Lee Vessel, Arthur Vessel, Charles Vessel, Howard Vessel, Murphy Harris, Bud Owen Williams, Owen Bud Williams and Windell Williams Jr.
