RIDGELAND — Greg Queen and Vayne Mullins each scored one goal for Franklin County, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs lost to the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Saints 5-2 Saturday afternoon in the second round of the MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A South State Playoffs.

Franklin County head coach Jeff Long said if it had not been for a couple of slow rollers that went into the back of the net for St. Andrew’s, the Bulldogs could have had an opportunity to even the score in the waning minutes of the match.

Instead, the Bulldogs’ season came to an end against a good St. Andrew’s team. Long said that St. Andrew’s was the better team on this day.

“That was the best St. Andrew’s team I’ve seen. I’m proud of (my) guys. We were in the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if St. Andrew’s won (1A/2A/3A). They were very good in the air. They scored two of their goals on headers,” Long said.

Franklin County finished with a 20-1-1 overall record.

ACCS 4, Hillcrest Christian 2

JACKSON — Lester Wells scored three of his four goals in the second half, including the game-tying goal at the 54th minute and the go-ahead goal at the 65th minute, to give the Adams County Christian School Rebels a come-from-behind win over the Hillcrest Christian School Cougars Saturday afternoon.

After Hillcrest took a 2-1 lead at the 47th minute of the match, ACCS tied the score at 2-2 on Wells’ second goal, a header from a corner kick by Justin Allgood. Then Wells gave the Rebels the lead for good 11 minutes later. He added his final goal of the match at the 72nd minute.

“My guys came from behind against a great Jackson power team today,” ACCS head coach Jim Allgood said. “They showed a lot of heart and working together to be able to come from behind late in the match.”

Wells’ first goal of the match came at the 24th minute. Hillcrest then scored at the 37th minute to make tie it up at 1-1, and that ended up being the score at halftime.

ACCS (14-3-1) will host Brookhaven Academy on Tuesday with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 5 p.m.
