NATCHEZ — Activities are picking up now, and what’s predicted to be a warm, pleasant weekend should make the perfect backdrop for those looking for a little entertainment.

Trinity Episcopal Day School alumni basketball game

As a part of several activities planned for founders’ day and the school’s annual open house, basketball players will take the court at 6 p.m. today for a trip down memory lane and a little fun.

The game will be in the school gym, and all friends and fans are invited.

Natchez Little Theatre production

NLT’s official opening night for its production of “The Cherry Orchard” is tonight.

The show begins at 7:30, and continues at the same time Friday and Saturday. It will close with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday.

The play is an adaptation of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s writing that first opened in Moscow in 1904.

In the NLT version, the story is set on a vast estate just outside of Natchez in the Roaring 20s.

A family is faced with the loss of the family plantation due to unpaid taxes.

Friday Forum

This week’s Friday Forum, sponsored by the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 8 a.m. Friday at the Natchez Coffee Company downtown. Jim Smith of the Green Alliance will be present to speak on recycling efforts.

Delta Sigma Theta

inaugural social

The Natchez Chapter of the national sorority will host a social affair to commemorate the second inauguration of President Obama.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Alcorn State University’s School of Nursing in Natchez.

Eleventh Moon Storytelling

The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians will host its annual storytelling event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the museum auditorium.

The event is recommended for “children” ages 7 to 99. Light refreshments will be served.

Admission is free, but seating is limited, so those who hope to attend are asked to come early.

Regional storytellers will include Sam Jones, Maryanne Raley, Susan Bonnette, Rusty Jenkins and Layne Taylor, among others.

All stories are based on Native American or nature stories.

The Morgantown Middle School Mask exhibit will also be on display.

Downtown walking tour

The Natchez National Historical Park will offer a free downtown walking tour beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.

This week’s tour is titled “William Johnson’s Natchez.”

Meet at the William Johnson House at 210 State St.

St. Mary Catholic Church events

The church is hosting Allen Hunt, a Catholic evangelist, author and former protestant pastor, for a daylong event from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Participants must register for $25 Saturday morning.

The event will be at the family life center, 613 Main St., and lunch will be served.

Sunday, the church will host a classical guitar concert by Giovanni DeChairo, who has performed across the country.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. in the basilica; admission is free, but a love offering will be collected.

Westminster Presbyterian Church concert

The church will host the Chorale of Chamberlain Hunt Academy at 11 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.

The public is welcome to join in the regularly scheduled service.
