Minnie Southern

FERRIDAY — Services for Minnie Vera Tingle Southern, 98, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Ferriday, will be 2 p.m. today with the Rev. Don Bush and the Rev. Richard Cullum officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Southern was born June 15, 1911 in Pollock, the daughter of Henry Monroe Tingle and Mittie Belle Elkins Tingle. She was a resident of Ferriday, a homemaker and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Lester Southern; two daughters, Shirley Ann Drummond and Patsy Ruth Harp and two sisters, Gladys Garner and Ima Morgan.

Survivors include one son, Lester Lynn Southern and wife, JoAnn, of Sallis; one daughter, Laveda Sue and husband, Raymond Eames, of Ferriday; two sisters, Fannie Spears of Colfax and Ura Lucas of Texas; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her great grandsons Tanner Whittington, Tyler Buffington, Raymond Kenneth Eames, Ethan Southern, Corey Southern and James Austin Diel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Whittington, Tommy Barron, Preston Holder, Dick Norwood, Paul Harris and Glen Sharp.
