NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School soccer team was rolling along Thursday evening, but with 30 minutes to go in the game, off came the wheels.

The Rebels led 4-1 early in the second half, but Laurel Christian School opened a shooting gallery on ACCS goalkeeper Zach Pintard in the second half.

Laurel’s Jeremiah Marcellino scored four goals, and Josiah Marcellino and Jon Ryan Fennell chipped in with one a piece to lead Laurel to a 6-4 come-from-behind win.

“Our guys were playing for the third day in a row, and I think in the second half we lost our intensity,” ACCS head coach Jim Allgood said. “They took a lot of shots, and they started to hit the back of the net.”

Both teams had to fight through standing water on parts of the ACCS playing surface, and Allgood said the team will be glad to play on a dry field next week.

“Tuesday we played in 6 inches of rain, (Wednesday) it was 4 inches and today it was only 1 inch of rain,” he said. “Speed on attack is our strength, and naturally that took our speed out of the equation.”

ACCS found some goals early, however. Lester Wells netted two goals, Austin Walker scored one and Sam Butler also scored one.

Despite the loss, Allgood said he was proud of the way his team played against a past state champion.

“To be in the game with a chance to get a victory against a past state champion and an established program made me very proud,” Allgood said.

The loss dropped ACCS to 3-2 in district and 12-2-3 overall. The Rebels will have a chance to redeem themselves Monday when they travel to face Laurel Christian.
