RIDGECREST – Services for Birdie Washington Thomas, 72, of Ferriday, who died Monday, July 6, 2009, at her residence, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Posey and the Rev. Johnnie Brown officiating.
Burial will be at noon Monday, July 13, at Garden Memories in Metairie, La., under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Mrs. Thomas was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Ferriday, the daughter of Clifton and Priscilla Lomas Washington.
She was a nurse at Charity Hospital in New Orleans for 30 years.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Thomas Sr.; her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one brother, Fate Washington and wife, Laura; two sisters, Ethel Batiste and husband, Jeffery, all of San Mateo, Calif., and Yvonne Brown of Ferriday; two sisters-in-law, Lubertha Washington of Marrero, La., and Pearline Washington of New Orleans; one aunt, Estella Washington of Union City, Calif.; caregiver, Tammy Miles of Ferriday; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
