FAYETTE — Services for Harry Eugene Anderson, 89, of Fayette, who died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Wisteria Gardens Nursing Home in Pearl, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fayette Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Parsons and the Rev. Michael Assink officiating.
Burial will follow at Shelton Cemetery in Copiah County under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Anderson was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Jefferson County, the son of William Daniel Anderson and Martha Susan Shelton. He served for two years in the CCC at Meadville and in Oregon. He also served in the first Battalion 155th Infantry of the U.S. Army for three years during World War II as a sergeant and ham radio operator. Stationed in the Philippine Islands, he fought in the battles of New Guinea, Morotai and Mindanao.
Mr. Anderson was employed by the Mississippi Forestry Commission for 27 years as dispatcher at the Jefferson County fire tower.
He enjoyed gardening, bee-keeping and was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Will T. Anderson; and stepfather, C.E. Garrett.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ann Marie Anderson; two daughters, Edith Wilson and husband, David, of Camden S.C., and Sheila Lester and husband, John, of Canton; three grandchildren, Sydney Bedells and Devin and Meagan Wilson; one brother, Scott Anderson and family; one sister, Carolyn Cox and family; and the family of his late brother.
