NATCHEZ — An icky weather week should brighten up a bit by Friday, though rain is still possible again on Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures will be in the 70s.

Those looking for a bit of variety and community fun Saturday can check out a new event in downtown Natchez.

As part of monthly Second Saturday festivities, the Natchez Downtown Development Association is hosting a scavenger hunt.

Anyone over the age of 18 can stop by Natchez Coffee Company between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a list of items to hunt.

They must then visit participating downtown shops to locate 10 items and write down where the item is located.

All correct entries — turned in at the coffee shop by 5 p.m. — will be a part of a drawing at 6 p.m. at Natchez Coffee for a 39-inch flatscreen television.

Other participants will be eligible to win gift cards. Participants do not have to be present to win.

The objects in the stores will be easy to locate, NDDA board member Steve Davis said.

“It’s something we are trying to do to get people downtown and get people into the shops to see what we have to offer,” he said.

The idea serves as a winter replacement to typical outdoor activities on Second Saturday, including Art on the Bluff, which will not occur this week.

Friday Forum

The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce’s weekly Friday Forum at Natchez Coffee Company will feature speakers from the Mission Mississippi project. The effort is a statewide focus on racial reconciliation with a Christian view.

The speakers will be Dolphus Weary and Neddie Winters. The forum will be from 8 to 9 a.m.

Pilgrimage Garden Club open meeting

The garden club’s January luncheon at noon Friday is open to the public and will feature Historian Jeff Mansell of the National Park Service. Mansell will present an illustrated tour through well-known gardens of England’s country houses.

Hollywood Comes to

Natchez — A Civil War Film Series

The January film in this series will be shown at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center theater.

An expert on Civil War history will introduce the film and lead a discussion.

Saturday’s showing is “Freedom Road,” a classic historical representation of the post-Civil War South.

Admission is free, and the films are leading up to next month’s Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration.

Krewe of Natchez Indians ball

Krewe members and invited guests will celebrate at their annual Mardi Gras ball beginning at 8 p.m. at the Natchez Convention Center.

The theme is “Welcome to Hollywood.”

Big River Jamboree

The jamboree will kick off its 16th year of musical entertainment at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Shrine Hall on Morgantown Road.

Surefire Band and other gospel music performers will play until 9:30 p.m.

Admission is $4 and $6.

Gospel music begins at 6 p.m., followed by country and dance at 7 p.m.
