NATCHEZ – Services for Bessie Stewart Green, 93, of Natchez, who went to be with her heavenly father Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Promise Hospital, will be at noon Saturday at Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mrs. Green was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Wilkinson County (Lessley), the daughter of Willie and Jerlean Lewis Stewart.
She was a devoted and faithful member of the Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of Victory Chapter No. 4 Order of the Eastern Stars. Until her recent illness, she was an active participant at the Natchez Senior Citizens Center for many years.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Bernice Cage; one sister, Inez Stewart Ferguson; five brothers, Willie Stewart Jr., L. C. Stewart Sr., Joseph Stewart, Roosevelt Stewart and Ernest Stewart; one special nephew who was like a brother, Bilbo Ferguson; one grandson, Terry Howard; and two great-great-grandsons, Bryant Foster Sr. and Brandon Aaron Skipper.
Survivors include five loving daughters, Bessie Bradley and husband, Cornelius, of Natchez, Matron Rowe of Woodville, Marjean Rowe of New Orleans, Elizabeth Ann Green of Los Angeles and Shirley Steele of Gretna, La.; one devoted son, Richard Green Sr., of New Roads, La.; two grandsons that she raised as her own sons, Larry Cage and wife, Gerri, of New Roads and Carl Green and wife, Felissa, of Toledo, Ohio; three brothers, Clarence Stewart Sr. of Baton Rouge, Berine Stewart Sr. and wife, Sadie, of Woodville and Earl Stewart and wife, Rosie, of Chicago; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be L.C. Stewart Jr., Mitchell Stewart, Samuel Brown, Tony Heidleberg, James Walker, Billy Joe Frazier and Michael Bradley Jr.
