Allye Moody

NATCHEZ — Services for Allye Elizabeth Moody, 102, who died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Larson officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Miss Moody was born June 21, 1907, in Wilson, the daughter of Edna MacGrew and John Henry Moody. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order Society of the First Families of Mississippi, United Daughters of the Confederacy, The National Society of Magna Charta Dames, the Natchez Historical Society and the Pilgrimage Garden Club, where upon her retirement from Chevron Oil Co. she served as a docent and gift shop manager.

During World War II she served as secretary to the Commandant of Camp Van Dorn.

Growing up in Natchez, with her keen interest in genealogy, bridge, local organizations and employment at Chevron, Miss Moody had a wide and diverse group of friends. Her health being good, until the past year, she was active in every way that interested her. Her biggest complaint being, “My friends are going.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Johnnie H. Moody; two brothers, Leslie E. Moody and Monroe Jackson Moody; and one great nephew, Monroe Jackson Moody III.

Survivors include one niece, Helen Rowan Moody Beach of Natchez; three nephews, John Haralson Moody of California, Monroe Jackson Moody of Natchez and Allison Foster Moody of Monroe, La.; three great nephews, Merrick Rowan Moody, Joseph Peirce Beach and John Valentine Moody; three great nieces, Mary Moody Gardner, Jodee Moody and Katherine Foster Moody; two great-great nieces, Emily Moody and Mackenzie Moody; four great-great nephews, Monroe Jackson Moody IV, Eric Hauczinger, Brandon James Moody and Jared Moody; longtime devoted friend, Durell Epperson; and three devoted caregivers and friends, Lucille Jackson, Patricia Johnson and Mildred Lyles.

Pallbearers will be Herschell G. Epperson, MacArthur Mason, Jerry D. Beach, Peirce Beach, Monroe Jackson Moody Jr. and Allison Foster Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be Van Stewart, Greg Barrows, Bill Saxon, Bill Smith, Walter Sandel, Dr. Clifford Tillman, Albert Metcalfe, Wilfred Geisenberger and Adrian Tremble.
