JONESVILLE — Quinesha Branch led Block with 15 points and Vontresia Barber added 13 points as the Lady Bears used a stellar defensive effort in the second half to rally from a 10-point halftime deficit and defeat the Tioga Lady Indians 47-44 Monday night.
In what turned out to be a battle of Class 4A versus Class 1A, it looked liked Tioga was well on its way to a win after jumping out to an 18-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and still led by 10 points, 32-22, at halftime.
However, Block turned up the defensive pressure right out of the gates in the third quarter. The Lady Bears held the Lady Indians to just six points in the third, yet only managed 10 points themselves to go into the fourth quarter trailing by six points.
The Lady Bears eventually took the lead in the fourth quarter and ended up outscoring the Lady Indians 15-6 for the three-point victory. Brittany Rogers led Tioga with a game-high 17 points and Kayla James finished with 16 points.
Block (7-4) will next play at Delhi Charter Thursday night.
