NATCHEZ — The Natchez Association for the Preservation of Afro-American Culture has received a $20,000 grant that will allow the organization to train reenactors to recreate historic African-American events that happened in the Miss-Lou.

The grant was given to NAPAC by Tauck World of Giving, a branch of the Tauck travel company that funds efforts that focus on conservation, cultural or historical preservation.

The grant, NAPAC Museum Director Darrell White said, will allow NAPAC to hire a professional to train the reenactors and also purchase period clothing. White said approximately 15-20 people have expressed interest in participating in the reenactments.

The factual reenactments, White said, will allow NAPAC to better serve Natchez’s tourism entities and also host new events honoring African-Americans and their contributions to the area.

“It will allow us to offer a new dimension to what is available here in Natchez,” White said.
