FROGMORE, La. — Services for Willie Rhea White, 85, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Williams officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mrs. White was born June 12, 1924, in Wildsville, La., the daughter of James and Eliza Bowie Rountree. She was a retired first-grade teacher for Concordia Parish school system with more than 30 years of service. Mrs. White was a graduate of Grambling State University with a degree in education.
She was a member of Old Daughters Baptist Church, in Wildsville, where she served a church secretary; a member of Concordia Parish Retired Teachers Association; Louisiana State University Home Extension Service; Order of Eastern Star Pride of Jonesville; Heroines of Jericho No. 25; and Amanranth Coat No. 18.
Mrs. White was an active member of many other community organizations.
She dearly loved her family, brothers and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest White; two sons, Paul A. White of Ferriday and Ernest Merle White and wife, Kathy, of Atlanta; one daughter, E. Yvonne Dixon and husband, Charlie, of Alexandria, La.; two brothers, Charles C. Rountree and wife, Ann, of Huntsville, Ala., and Henry Rountree and wife, Debbie, of Atlanta; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
