NATCHEZ — Services for David Lawrence Eidt Sr., 78, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
David “Big Dave” was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Natchez, the son of Duncan and Elizabeth Hicks Eidt. He was a 1948 graduate of Natchez High School and a 1958 graduate of Ole Miss.
Mr. Eidt was a veteran of the Korean War, being a member of NATO, Air Force and was stationed in Florence and Naples from 1951 to 1953. He was a casualty insurance adjuster for 50 years, having worked for GAB, USF&G and finally president of Natchez Claims Service.
Mr. Eidt was a lifelong member of St. Mary Basilica and an avid Ole Miss fan who loved spending time with his family and friends at “Asylum” on Lake St. John.
He was married to Clare Geisenberger Eidt for 49 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Henry Frassle Eidt.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kate Shields Eidt; one son, David Lawrence Eidt Jr. and wife, Teresa; four granddaughters, Caitlan Elizabeth, Sarah Abbigail, Chloe Terese and Annelise Clare Eidt; one brother, Edward and wife, Mary; one sister-in-law, Sissy Eidt; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Gil Jackson, Charles Westmoreland, Wray Eidt, Michael Eidt, Minor Buchanan and John Fike.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Vaughn and Bradley Harrison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Natchez Humane Society, Natchez Cemetery Association, Pleasant Acre or a charity of choice.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lee England as well as the dedicated staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Natchez Community Hospital.
