Norma Buie

MEXIA, Texas — Graveside services for Norma Jean Wyatt Buie, 79, of Mexia, Texas, formerly of Natchez, who died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at her residence, were Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bogue Chitto.

Arrangements were under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Mexia, Texas.

Mrs. Buie was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Natchez, the daughter of Boyd and Ruby Wyatt. She was a 1948 graduate of Natchez High School and received her bachelor of arts degree and registered nurse’s degree, both from Tulane University. Jean worked for 20 years as a registered nurse while raising a family of five children.

She and her childhood sweetheart, W.C. “Sonny” Buie, recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Jean spent most of her life serving the church as a pastor’s wife and as a missionary to the Navajo tribe in New Mexico.

Jean was a member of Petty’s Chapel Baptist Church in Corsicana where her husband serves as pastor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Bill Zerbe; and one granddaughter, Bonnie Marcum.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Debbie Ferguson, Billie Marcum and Mandy McCain; one son, William C. Buie III; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
