NATCHEZ — Services for Harper Dunson, 85, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stanton Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Purvis officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Dunson was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Benton, the son of Wiley and Era Marie Smith Dunson.
Mr. Dunson served two tours of duty, World War II and the Korean War, serving in a number of departments: a captain, CID and MP, 100 percent DAV and awarded a number of medals.
He farmed most of his life and was fondly called the “green man.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Catherine Dunson; one daughter, Sally Dunson; one son-in-law, James E. Doyle; one grandson, Jacob Denny; one sister; and nine brothers.
Survivors include six daughters, Gail Atwood and husband, Robert, Betty A. Doyle, Debra S. Green, Cathy Dunson, Marilyn Temple and husband, Brad, and Heather Hitt and husband, Jonathan, all of Natchez; one sister, Marylee Davis of Houston, Texas; one brother, Dave Dunson of Natchez; seven granddaughters, Laura Hodges, Amanda Hamilton, Melissa Tarver, Paula Tarver, Catherine Green, Brandy Green and Tiffany Green; six grandsons, George Robert Atwood, Jesse Harper Atwood, Randall Freeman, Russell Surrena, Chris Surrena and Toby Surrena; 26 great-grandchildren; special friends, Martha Simpson and Becca Posey; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Paul Dunson, Paul Tullos, Leslie Edmond, Lynn Dunson, Chris Cain and Robert Atwood.
