NATCHEZ — Services for Luke “PaPa” Smith, 85, of Natchez, who died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Bruin Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Cain officiating.
Burial will follow at Second Union Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 22, 1924, the son of Charlie Smith and Sara Cage Henderson. He retired from St. Catherine Gravel Company in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Kallie Cage; one sister, Rose Lee Minor; and two nephews, Terry Minor and Christopher “Poo” Minor.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Eloise Smith; three sons, Kenneth Ware and wife, Anna, of Natchez, Gregory Ware of Crystal, Minn., and Vidal Ware of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Cynthia Ware Gaylor of Natchez; one sister, Ola Tenner; seven grandchildren, Latrenda Smith, Cylynthia Mills and husband, Anthony, Kenitra Ware, Camesha Gaylor and Kenneth Ware Jr., all of Natchez, Jeanette Ware and Elouise Ware, both of Crystal; three great-grandchildren, Kirahn, Tyilan and Khamrys; two nieces, Jennifer “Lady J” Minor of Natchez and Aretha Wiley and husband, Cassius, of Jackson; five nephews, Ronnie Minor of Shreveport, La., Ricky Minor and Steve Minor, both of Jackson, Emerick Henderson and Derrick Henderson and wife, Angela, all of Natchez; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Henderson, Emerick Henderson, Sylvester Harris, Anthony Mills, Carlos Patterson and Tyrone Washington.
Honorary pallbearers will be sons and nephews.
