CLINTON — Dre McCoy’s double-double coupled with good offensive performances from Tommy McCoy and Garrett Vinson helped a short-handed Trinity Episcopal team win 57-40 against Silliman Institute Tuesday night.

Key contributors Sky Logan and Tanner Cage were unavailable for the Saints, because they were selected for the MAIS All-Star football team. But McCoy, McCoy and Vinson stepped up in their absence.

Dre finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Tommy finished with 17 points and Vinson added 11 to lift Trinity to a 57-40 win.

The Saints led 24-20 at halftime but controlled the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Trinity (2-1) will host Centreville Academy Thursday.

Cathedral 52, Salem 42

TYLERTOWN — The Cathedral School boys’ basketball team built a big enough lead through the first three quarters to sustain a late run by Salem High School Tuesday night.

The Green Wave got 20 points from Jarell Johnson and 13 from Jardarius Anderson to take a 41-24 lead into the fourth quarter. Salem made a run in the fourth but still finished the game trailing 52-42.

“It was the best game we played all year up until the fourth quarter where we had to try to protect the lead,” Cathedral head coach Peter Arnold said. “It got a little close for a while, but we were able to regain composure and finish it off.”

R.J. Givens chipped in with 10 points for Cathedral, who improved to 2-3 on the season.

The Green Wave will play LaSalle Thursday at the Monterey Tournament.

Franklin Parish 72, Vidalia 56

WINNSBORO, La. — Isiah Thompson did his part for the Vidalia High School boys’ basketball team Tuesday night, but Franklin Parish had too much firepower for the Vikings to come home with a win.

Thompson finished with 21 points, but Franklin Parish ended up winning the contest 72-56.

Dee Whitley was the only other scorer in double digits for Vidalia with 11.

The Vikings (0-3) will play in the Tensas Parish Tournament Thursday.

Jefferson County 51, Amite 37

LIBERTY — The Jefferson County High School boys’ basketball team used a dominant second-quarter performance to separate itself from Amite County Tuesday night.

The Tigers led by one after one quarter but outscored Amite 14-3 in the second frame to take control of the contest and win 51-37.

Jarmel Anderson finished with 15 points for the Tigers, and Nicholas Brown added 13.

The Tigers improved to 3-3 on the season, and will travel to Natchez to face Natchez High School Friday.

Monterey 53, LaSalle 38

OLLA, La. — The Monterey High School boys’ basketball team traveled to LaSalle High School Tuesday night and came home with a 53-38 victory.

The Wolves will host the Monterey Tournament starting today.
