MONTEREY — Services for Betty Steele Smith, 76, of Monterey, who died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, in Taylor, Mich., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eva Church of God with the Rev. Kevin Simms officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mrs. Smith was born June 1, 1933, in Eva, La., the daughter of David Wesley Steele and Marion “Belle” Steele.

Mrs. Smith was a nurse and a member of Eva Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dean Smith; and her parents.

Survivors include one son, Sam Wactor and wife, Linda, of Rhinehart, La.; one daughter, Sherry Jackson and husband, Don, of Taylor, Mich.; one brother, Wesley Steele of Vidalia; four sisters, Mildred Pecanty and Elmira Ferrington, both of Monterey, Elsie Mouch of Geismar, La., and Linda Manuel of Lake Charles, La.; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chris Doughty, Archie Morris, Delbert Manuel, Bill Westberry, Benett Hotard and James Mouch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Jackson, Joseph Manuel and Eugene Pecanty.
