FAYETTE — Kenjita Tarelton and Justina Ratliff helped Port Gibson pull away from Jefferson County after a sluggish first quarter as the Lady Blue Waves defeated the Lady Tigers Friday night.

The game was tied at 10-10 after one quarter of play and Port Gibson was only up 25-23 at halftime before taking over in the second half. A lot of that had to do with the play of Tarleton, who had a game-high 22 points, and Ratliff, who finished with 17 points.

Keionne January was the leading scorer for Jefferson County (2-2) with 15 points while Taneisha Bailey chipped in with nine points. Next up for the Lady Tigers is a home game against Vidalia next Tuesday to complete a three-game homestand.

Monterey boys 63, Harrisonburg 30

HARRISONBURG, La. — Kade Passman led all scorers with 19 points and Hayden Cassels had 13 points as the Monterey Wolves rolled past the Harrisonburg Bulldogs Friday night.

Monterey led Harrisonburg 13-6 at the end of the first quarter before putting the game out of reach with an 18-4 advantage in the second quarter that gave the Wolves a commanding 31-10 halftime lead.

Dillon Smith also reached double digits in scoring as he poured in 11 points for Monterey (5-2), which doesn’t play again until Tuesday, Nov. 27 at LaSalle.

Monterey girls 37, Harrisonburg 28

HARRISONBURG, La. — Kaley Baker and Karlee Woodruff scored nine points each to lead the Monterey Lady Wolves to a come-from-behind win over the Harrisonburg Lady Bulldogs Friday night.

Harrisonburg led Monterey for much of the first three quarters. At halftime, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wolves were tied at 14-14. Then Harrisonburg appeared on the brink of a huge win after outscoring Monterey 8-4 in the third quarter for a 22-18 lead.

But the Lady Wolves responded in a big way by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 19-6 in the fourth quarter. B. Hudspeth led Harrisonburg with a game-high 14 points, but in the end it would not be enough.

Monterey (6-1) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at LaSalle.

Port Gibson boys 54, Jefferson County 52

FAYETTE — Salento Syles scored 16 points and Reginald Thomas added 13 points as the Port Gibson Blue Waves defeated the Jefferson County Tigers Friday night.

Jefferson County led Port Gibson 26-25 at halftime before the Blue Waves outscored the Tigers 13-12 in the third quarter to tie the game at 38-38 and 16-14 in the fourth quarter to pull out the two-point victory*.

Nicholas Brown led the Tigers with 16 points and Chris Tyler finished with 10 points. Jefferson County (1-3) plays host to Vidalia next Tuesday.

Wilkinson County girls 73, Tylertown 53

WOODVILLE — The Wilkinson County Lady Wildcats finally picked up their first win of the season thanks to a big third quarter as they defeated the Tylertown Lady Chiefs 73-53 Friday night.

Wilkinson County (1-3) will play at the South Pike Invitational next week.
