BROOKHAVEN — Services for the Rev. Kelvin Lynn Cooper, 38, of Memphis, formerly of Brookhaven, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, will be at noon Monday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Williams Mortuary in Brookhaven.
Rev. Cooper was born Feb. 22, 1971, in Jackson, the son of Larry Michael Cooper and Margaret Nelson Franklin. He was a 1991 graduate of Brookhaven High School and a graduate of Alabama State University. He received his ministerial training at Selma University in Selma, Ala.
Rev. Cooper was the pastor of Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church in West Point. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a member of Bethel Church.
Survivors include his wife, La’Shawn Gipson Cooper; one son, Aaron Devon Cooper; his mother; his father and wife, Eloise, all of Brookhaven; four brothers, Larry Cooper Jr. and Timothy Cooper and wife, Ramondra, all of Brookhaven, the Rev. Jivonta Watkins and wife, Kanisha, of Shreveport, La., and LaGaris Kelly of Jackson; six sisters, Tarsha Cooper, Christy Felder and husband, Johnny, Aliesha Buie and husband, William, Alexis Watkins and Shaquan Wilson, all of Brookhaven, and Courtney Hubert and husband, Sylvester, of New Orleans; stepfather, Carlos Mathis of Brookhaven; mother-in-law, Linda Cruell of Natchez; and father-in-law, Richard Gipson of Greenville.
