FERRIDAY — Services for Joel Parker, 75, of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pentecostals of the Miss-Lou with the Rev. Gary Howington, the Rev. George Guy, the Rev. Wayne Watson and the Rev. Dr. Irma Jean Holland officiating.

Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery in Crowville, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Parker was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Wisner, La., the son of Jessie Cordell Parker and Myrtle Irma Tidwell Parker. He was employed by Sears as a service manager. He was Pentecostal.

Mr. Parker proudly served his county in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and the Korean War. He retired after 21 years of service as one of the youngest chief master sergeants. He earned a number of medals including the Bronze Star for valor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin, Clifton and Jessie Eugene Parker; and three sisters, O’dean Wilson, Elsie Montpelier and Vergie Parker.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nell Parker; two sons, Don Parker and wife, Cherrie, of Jefferson City, Mo., and Gary Parker and wife, Dianne, of Vidalia; one brother, Jerry Don “Buck” Parker and wife, Bobbie, of Harrisonburg, La.; six sisters, Arlene Parker of Monroe, Ohio, Arminta Eubanks and Jeanette Ford, both of Harrisonburg, Charlotte Watson of Shreveport, La., Leah Landrum and Patricia Parker, both of Jackson; one grandson, Ryan Parker; three granddaughters, Kristi Augustine and husband, Clint, Nikki Nunn and husband, Russ, and Kari Reichard and husband, Mike; two great-granddaughters, Ava Grace and Emma Claire Augustine; and a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Kimball, James Kimball, Ryan Parker, Clint Augustine, Russ Nunn and Mike Reichard.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Sears Retirement Group and Dr. Jerry Iles.
