VIDALIA — Concordia Parish Superintendent of Schools Paul Nelson asked school board members to express as much support for the parish’s teachers as they can.
“I want to ask the board that, as we move forward in time, that the members take every opportunity to encourage and support our teachers,” Nelson said.
“Many of them are very discouraged by the measures taken by the governor and the state superintendent and the educational bureaucracy right now, so say a little prayer for them.”
In the past year, Louisiana’s educational system has seen several major changes implemented, including how teachers and administrators are evaluated — and even possibly dismissed — in light of school accountability scores.
During the board meeting, the board members voted to set their first meeting of 2013 for Jan. 10.
