NATCHEZ — Graveside services were Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, honoring the life of Pharis Jane Boyd, 90, who died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Lafayette General Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Luther Burney officiating.
Pharis was always full of love and enthusiasm for life. After moving to Natchez as a young girl, Pharis met the love of her life, Rolla William Boyd. They were married June 27, 1936, and remained happily married until his death in 2006. Her happiest days were spent raising her daughter, Jane, followed by a number of happy afternoons spent playing with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband; two sisters, Ruby Boyd and Nita Mosley; one brother, T.C. Carr; and her parents, Tom Carr and Etola Ellen Carr.
Survivors include her devoted daughter, Jane Boyd Tew and husband, John William; one sister, Darlene Hicks; three grandchildren, Lisa Tew Cummins and husband, Patrick, Tara Tew Lutz and husband, Jeff, and Jay Tew and wife, Shannon; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren Cummins, PFC Michael Cummins, Bryan Lutz, Hannah Lutz, Stephen Lutz, Jordan Tew, Cameron Tew and Taylor Tew; two great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Cummins and Riley Cummins; she will be dearly missed by her dedicated niece, Betty Saylor; her faithful friend and sitter, Helen; her Lafayette friend, Maude Page; and her longtime friend of Natchez, Margaret Gibbs.
Pallbearers were Jay Tew, Patrick Cummins, PFC Michael Cummins, Jeff Lutz, Stephen Lutz, Roy Cotton and Tim Cotton.
Honorary pallbearer was be Bryan Lutz.
