NATCHEZ — Services for William A. “Bill” Carroll Sr., 80, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Fielder officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the church.

Mr. Carroll was born June 21, 1929, in West Helena, Ark., the son of Thomas A. Carroll Sr., and Willie Irene Bass Carroll. Mr. Carroll moved to Natchez in 1955, and joined Immanuel Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school and was an active deacon until prevented by his illness.

Mr. Carroll was a past member of the Lions Club and coached Dixie Boys Baseball for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman and a great family man who always put his family first.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Martha Johnson Carroll; one son, Bill Carroll Jr.; one brother, Thomas Carroll Jr.; one sister, Virgie Henderson; one granddaughter, Beth Carroll Rogers; and one grandson, Stephen Carroll.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Carroll Fielder; one son, D. Glenn Carroll and wife, Debbie; one granddaughter, Nicole Carroll, all of Natchez; four grandsons, David Carroll and wife, Buffy, of Mount Dora, Fla., Brad Fielder and wife, Naomi, of Alton, Ill., Todd Fielder and wife, Samantha, and Dustin Carroll, all of Natchez; two sisters, Rachel Rodgers of Marvel, Ark., and Carolyn Howell and husband, Oren, of Mountain View, Ark.; six great-grandchildren, Hayley Carroll, Cody Carroll, both of Mount Dora, Hunter Carroll, Emma Rogers, Abby Fielder and Madelyn Fielder, all of Natchez, and Chandler Corbin of Sterlington, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Carroll, Todd Fielder, Dustin Carroll, Brynson Rogers, Tommy Rodgers, Brad Fielder and Trenton Rodgers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Immanuel Baptist Church, Bill Staggs, Harold Henderson, Oren Howell and Hyram Copeland.
