Elder Charles Parker

GILBERT, La. — Services for Elder. Charles V. Parker, 83, of Wisner, La., who died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Crown Health Nursing Home in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. today at Apostolic Faith Chapel in Gilbert with the Rev. Virgil Harris, the Rev. Jerry Brady. the Rev. Hurby Hitt, the Rev. Earnest Oliver and the Rev. Lance Parker officiating.

Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro, La.

Rev. Parker was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Newellton, La., the son of Clark Washington Parker and Julia Britten Herring Parker. He was the oldest of 10 children. Of the many occupations during his life, being a minister of the gospel was above all. He was called to the ministry in 1960. As a young minister, he preached revivals in California and began his first pastorate at Kings Pentecostal Church in Wisner in 1965. Through the years, he had five pastorates and led a number of revivals across Northeast Louisiana.

Rev. Parker loved people and was a demonstrator of his concern for souls. As a minister of the Apostolic faith, he was a true warrior in the Lord’s army. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was employed by Knudson Creamery in Fresno, Calif.; Martin Bros. in Winnsboro; and was retired as superintendent of Franklin Parish Police Jury.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Parker; his parents; four siblings, Bill Parker, Judy Barnes and twins, Marvin Ray Parker and Bettie Lou Parker.

Survivors include one son, Greg Parker and wife, Cynthia, of Johnson City, Tenn.; two daughters, Denise Roberts and husband, Red, of Wisner and Lisa Welch and husband, Adam, of Natchez; one brother, Ronnie Parker and wife, Sally, of Jasper; four sisters, Joyce Jones and Clara Parker, both of Jigger, La., Jenny Parker of Gulf Shores, Ala., and Charlotte Roberts and husband, Raymond, of Boca Raton, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Charles Barnes of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Lance Parker, Crystal Hitt, Britni Welch, Ryan Welch, Amanda Lewis and Sara Welch; and seven great-granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be David “Bubba” Jones, Riley Roberts, Rob Roberts, Darren Parker, Clark Parker, Jerry Barnes, Rex Russell, Scott Russell and Eugene Barnes.

Special honorary pallbearers will be Charles Barnes and Raymond Roberts.

Honorary ministers will be the Rev. Ray McMurray and the Rev. Bobby Richie.
