Robert Pully

LACROSSE, Va. — Robert Nelson Pully of South Hill, Va., formerly of La Crosse, Va., died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010.

Services will be private at a later date at La Crosse Cemetery.

Mr. Pully was a graduate of La Crosse High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. After service, he pursued a career in the theater, dancing in “The Lost Colony” in Manteo, N.C., and “Faith of Our Fathers” in Washington, D.C.; also several plays in New York City. While in New York he worked at the Algonquin Hotel for 33 years, attaining the position of general manager. He started a side career of decorating chicken, goose and ostrich eggs, which he sold all over the world.

After retiring from the Algonquin, he moved to Natchez and managed the Governor Holmes Bed and Breakfast. Retiring again from that venture, he moved back to South Hill where he lived until his death.

He was preceded in death by one brother, T. Faris Pully; and one sister, Louise Pully Cook.

Survivors include five nieces and nephews, Gladys Cook St. Sing and husband, W.C., Mary Iva Cook Jones and husband, Ronnie, John Oscar Cook Jr. and wife, Trudy, Richard Courtland Pully and wife, Maury, and Jordan Pully.
