VIDALIA — A group of Deer Park Road residents got little satisfaction at the Concordia Parish police jury meeting Monday after complaining about the condition of their road.

Resident Rhonda Walraven asked the police jury what kind of help it could give the Deer Park residents in regards to the bad shape of the road.

Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington said the jury’s hands were financially tied, but he directed parish staff to see how much gravel could be put on Deer Park Road.

“You can’t keep a road down there…it’s one of those roads that you could spend $100,000 on this year, and next year you would have the same problem,” Ferrington said.

Walraven said she understands the parish’s tight budget, but she said the road condition is a safety issue. During heavy rains, Walraven said, the mail truck cannot deliver to her house, and she said two power company trucks recently got stuck trying to restore power near her house.

“If there was to be an accident, and I needed an ambulance, there’s no way they can get down there if a power truck can’t get down there,” she said.

Walraven said after the meeting she was unsatisfied with the inaction of the police jury regarding Deer Park Road. She said she has repeatedly asked for assistance for road repairs.
