Nora McGuffee Flowers

McCOMB — Services for Nora Geraldine McGuffee Flowers, 86, who died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at Camellia Estates in McComb, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services will be at Moak’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogue Chitto under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Home in McComb.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Flowers was born May 21, 1923, at the family home in Moak’s Creek, to daughter of Julius Bonnom McGuffee and Ovie Thornhill McGuffee. She was a graduate of Johnston Station High School and Draughon’s Business School in Jackson. She was a longtime resident of New Orleans and she and her husband divided their retirement years between New Orleans and their home in the Moak’s Creek community.

Gerry was an accountant for Shell Oil Company for 32 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Orleans where she sang in the church choir for 45 years. In New Orleans, she gave generously of her time, volunteering at JoEllen Smith Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed contract bridge and had a talent for sewing and needlework arts; many examples of which are treasured by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ernest Everett “Pete” Flowers; one son, Ernest Everett “Sonny” Flowers Jr.; and one sister, Yvonne McGlothing.

Survivors include one niece, Sam Boggess of Houston, Texas; a number of first cousins; and a number of relatives of her husband.

The family wishes to express gratitude to J.D. Lyons for his friendship and kindness toward the Flowers family and to the staff members of Camellia Estates who provided exceptional care for the past three years.

Pallbearers will be Dave Boggess, Larry C. Flowers III, William V. Morris III, Bernie Parker, Edwin Johnson and Joe Brumfield.

Immediately following the graveside service, friends are invited to visit with the family at the church Fellowship Hall.
