D.L. Ladner

NATCHEZ — Services for D.L. “Square” Ladner, 86, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Wood officiating.

Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in Meadville under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, both at the church.

Mr. Ladner was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Hattiesburg, the son of D.L. Ladner Sr. and Robbie Louise Odom Ladner.

He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Ladner was a longtime Dixie Youth baseball coach and a longtime member of Pinecrest Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Ladner; one daughter, Kathie L. Swofford and husband, M. Kearby, of Natchez; one son, Philip N. Ladner and wife, Connie C. of Cleveland; two grandchildren, P. Dean Ladner of Memphis and Rachel E. Ladner of Cleveland; one brother, James Ladner and wife, Liz, of Alabama; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John South Lewis, Duke Edwards, Gary Edwards, Melvin Jones, Jimmy Whitt and Johnny Ratcliff Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Toney, Ken Perez, George Prescott, Doug Falvey and Wallace Willard.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Adams County Humane Society.
