The busy season is certainly here, and if you didn’t find something to do this past weekend, you simply weren’t looking.

From the Woodville Deer and Wildlife Festival to the Phatwater Kayak Challenge with dozens of events in between, the end of the last week was quite busy.

Two local schools celebrated homecoming, and Alcorn picked up a Saturday win.

But the news started much earlier in the week. Let’s review a few good headlines.

– The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce celebrated business with its annual gala, honoring two Natchezians and two local businesses with top awards for the year. Congratulations to all the winners and to the chamber for a great event.

– A drilling company has reportedly found oil on a piece of land in which the city has some ownership. The find could mean unexpected, non-tax, revenues for the city, which is good news any day.

– Fall Pilgrimage has ended, and though final numbers haven’t been analyzed yet, all those who worked hard to make the last two weeks special for our tourists deserve a big thank you!

– The county has begun receiving revenues from some logging efforts on the former Belwood Country Club site. The land is being cleared for a new industry expected to bring a few hundred jobs to town. That sounds like a win-win for the county and all the local residents.

The coming week is a big one; in fact, many would say it’s the biggest Natchez weekend of the year. Rest up, pray for good weather and get ready to see some beautiful balloons flying beginning this Friday.
