STAMPLEY — Services for Al “Preacher” Stampley, 67, of Natchez, who died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Baptist Church in Stampley with the Rev. Maurice Irving officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Stampley was born July 21, 1942, in Stampley, the son of India Felton and Allen J. Stampley. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was employed by Palace Cab Company and later Ike’s Cab Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy Swanson and Hardy Stampley; two sisters, Margaret Hayes and Jesse Lee Stampley; and one grandson, Derrick Stampley.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Covington and husband, T.J., of Natchez and Annette Walker of Jackson; three sons, Lamar Stampley of Natchez, Leland Ellis of Baton Rouge and Darryl Stampley of Carthage; six brothers, Hardy James Rynes, La., Lee Melvin Stampley of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Claude “Bip” James of Itta Bena, James W. Stampley of Las Vegas, Jimmy James of McNair and Donald James of Natchez; four sisters, Kit V. Johnson of Omaha, Neb., Ruby Bibbins and Mary James, both of Natchez, and Eva James of Stampley; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a very special and devoted friend, Dalphine Starks.
Pallbearers will be Claude James, Jimmy James, Donald James, Claude James Jr., and Robert Tenner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cartell Stampley, Aaric Stampley, Aaron Stampley, Calvin Stampley, Vantrell Stampley and Levon Daniels.
