FROGMORE, La. — Services for Mable Saulsberry Schiele, 81, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. L.B. Oliver officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mrs. Schiele was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Frogmore, the daughter of Samuel Saulsberry Sr. and Francis Green Smith. She attended Frogmore school.

Mrs. Schiele was baptized at an early age and became a devoted member of St. James Baptist Church. She served faithfully on the Mother’s Board and Usher Board for a number of years and was an enthusiastic supporter of all church activities. She was also a dedicated member of the Eastern Star society.

She was united in holy matrimony to Freddie Douglas Schiele on March 27, 1946. After her marriage, she worked as a nurse’s aide in Ferriday. Later she decided to attend beautician school in Port Arthur, Texas. Upon graduation from Port Arthur School of Cosmetology, she opened her own beauty shop. There she worked for a number of years until her retirement. Even while retired, she continued to serve a few customers who refused to get another beautician. When she fully retired, she cared for her elderly mother until her death in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Samuel Saulsberry Jr. and Mitchell Jackson.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Dr. Freddie D. Schiele; one son, Jimmy Schiele and wife, Nancy, of Aiken, S.C.; one grandson, Michael Schiele and wife, Donna, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two granddaughters, Cheryl Schiele and Jessica Schiele, both of Alexandria, Va.; two great-grandsons, David Schiele and Daniel Schiele, both of Indianapolis; nieces, including Justina G. Cook and Eliza McKeel who provided unwavering assistance to her for a number of years; nephew, Earnest Saulsberry of Port Arthur; a number of godchildren, including Porchia Matthews of Ferriday; and a number of other friends and relatives.
